We’re a little behind in posting this, but just before Christmas, Caleb was treated to his first meal of solid food! We got him some organic rice cereal and mixed it with a bit of milk, and he was hooked after the first taste. Here are a few photos of the event:

Caleb waits patiently. It’s his first time in a highchair too.

First bite!

Hmmm, it looks like most of it didn’t stay in his mouth.

Caleb thinks about it for a minute. It seems he’s still a bit small for the highchair too.

Second bite! This time a bit more stays in his mouth.

Yeah! He loves it!

Our happy boy.

He smiles a lot!

I think I’ll see what the highchair tastes like…

Mmmmmmm, highchair…

Our cute baby — check out those cheeks and eyelashes!

He’s a pro at eating now.

Still happy!

I’m going to eat my finger now.

…and back to the food. His eyes look like he’s pretty satiated.

Good boy!

He’s started to tilt his head back as the spoon approaches.

Interesting how grabbing the cup and pulling it out of Megan’s hands can create a pretty cool Rorschach, eh? Kind of looks like the US upside down….Caleb is eyeing the Caribbean.

Nadine was sitting next to the highchair like a dedicated pup. Either that or she was trying to get a tan in the window light.

All done!

Today was a big day for Caleb! I gave him his bath and then put him on his play gym while I went to clean up the bathroom. I came back about 1 minute later and he wasn’t there. I had a moment of panic and realized he had rolled under the swing! So I picked him up and put him on one side of the room and he started to roll! He made it all the way to the other wall and so we did the same excercise 2 more times before he was ready for something else. Here is an excerpt of one of his many rolls. He’s just too cute!

We want to take a moment and let everyone know how much we appreciate the professional lab that we use, Digital Precision Imaging in San Luis Obispo, CA. The owners, Jeff and Caitlin are two of the nicest and dedicated people we’ve ever met, and it is an absolute pleasure doing business with them. There are a number of things that set them apart from other pro labs, but here are a few that we would like to point out:
- Service: Service is one of the key things we look for when we work with other businesses and one of the aspects of our own business that we put a huge amount of effort into. We have found that not only does DPI offer great service, but they continually make an effort to improve it! A lot of labs can train an employee to smile when a customer comes through the door, but how many lab owners take the time to think about your business and then offer you fresh ideas or custom solutions the next time you stop by? DPI does that, on top of offering superior and consistent customer service.
- Quality: Exceptional quality is a must, and again, DPI excels. Their print quality is amazing as is their color management and custom printing. We have always been 100% satisfied with the high quality product that they have delivered to us, and expect that they will continue to amaze us.
- Innovation: Everyone can keep in step with the market, but few businesses are willing to make innovation a real priority. One of my favorite things is walking into DPI to pick something up and chatting with Jeff and Caitlin about the latest innovation they are working on. They constantly push their abilities to make DPI a more efficient, effective and powerful tool for their customers.
Thank you DPI, Jeff and Caitlin, for being such a great lab and helping to make Lumiere Imaging a better company!

We may have spotty access to our email accounts but will do our best to respond to any questions and inquiries within 24 hours. Our flight back is on Sunday evening but we will be out of the office until Tuesday evening, November 8th. Have a great weekend!

We took Caleb on a small adventure up the coast to Hearst Castle on Friday. We were celebrating my birthday but enjoyed taking Caleb out on one of his first major outings much more. He’s 10 weeks old today and still growing at an amazing clip! We’re trying to soak up as much of this time when he is still a baby as possible. Here are a few shots from our little adventure:

This is no joke. That’s San Simeon for you. I suppose that it doesn’t matter that the sign was on a deli and it was lunchtime…
…

Interesting architecture at the Visitor’s Center.
…

Caleb is happy to be hanging out in the Baby Bjorn.
…

Caleb isn’t too sure what to make of the bus ride up to the castle.
…

Except that it makes him sleepy…
…

And squished up a bit . He likes it when Megan holds him though.
…

Just your everyday balcony looking over the Pacific Ocean.

Hmmmmm.
…

The view from the pool.
…

But why would you look away from the pool? How cool is that?

Caleb hiding from the sun under a blanket. He slept in his carrier for the first part of the tour.
…

What’s a grand pool without an elevated pool and waterfall that flows out around a statue?
…

The castle is quite beautiful, both architecturally as well as from all of the lush landscaping.
…

Sweet. Guard dog fountains?
…

German comic caricatures (so we were told) on a window grate.

Yes, that’s the ceiling in one of the guest houses.

Megan’s awesome shot of the castle reflected in the lily pool.
…

These two aren’t related or anything.
…

On our way back home on Highway 1, we were treated to an amazing yet eerie sunset.
…

Back at home, Caleb needed some quality time with his bouncy chair.
…

…and then some on his mat.
…

What’s that over there?
…

Caleb smiling big!

We photographed a beautiful wedding last night at Rose Story Farm in Carpinteria (thank you Justin & Felicity—it was a blessing sharing such a special day with you!) and had the pleasure of running into someone from our past. For those of you who recognize the name “The Java Man”, you’ll be pleased to know that John Jones is now whipping up an excellent brew at select weddings!
John used to drive his mobile coffee shop around to various locations, including the Jefferson Campus of Brooks Institute where we first met him. He takes his coffee seriously and is a really pleasant person to have a conversation with. Last night he had an espresso machine with him and was making any drink the guests could think to request. We had a mocha (yes, it was scrumptious) and overheard a number of people saying very complimentary things about both John and his coffee.
If you are interested in contacting John for your event, please contact him at the following number: 805.252.9991
